The Lift11 poster is here!

The LIft11 poster has arrived. Design agency Bread and Butter explains how they created it.

As Nicolas Nova explained it in the early stage of lift 2011 design definition, "this year theme corresponds to the idea that digital technologies can be seen as a pervasive layer around people, artifacts and places; objects as well as individuals, are simultaneously active and passive concentration points."

Looking for a graphic interpretation of this immaterial stratum, we tried numerous approaches that finally lead us towards simple folded paper sheets with printed images of common objects, randomly gathered and photographed. Our intention in doing so was to symbolize the fact that everything and everyone became a potential interactive layer as a part of a bigger global envelope, and, in many ways, distorted the perception of the original reality. From a graphic point of view, we tried to give a feeling of lightness and subtlety, somehow more feminine. The notion of interconnection - if not interaction - is represented by an abstract network of lines and pearls, graphically referencing to the work of swiss graphic designer Karl Toggweiler in a poster designed for the "Bernische Ausstellung" in 1952. It seemed to us that using a direct reference to both Switzerland's long tradition in graphic design and to an old representation of an abstract network, had its relevancy in the Lift context, where looking at past stories and creation has always be one way to decipher the future.

Finally, one of our main concern about the visual, is always its capacity of being reinterpreted in the conference other media (for example in the speaker 's name video animation) and in the space (for the general signage and for the stage eye-catcher).

Viral posters

We have had viral tickets, viral blog posts, viral tweets. One of the less known category of viral stuff we do is posters. You can see them pop up a bit everywhere from time to time. Here is the latest example, our longtime friend Robert Scoble making a video from his appartment with a wonderful Lift07 poster in the back :)

New Year, New Lift, New Identity, New Poster

Our friends over at Bread and Butter explain the process behind the creation of the Lift10 poster:

With the theme "connected people", we tried to find a new way to represent the fragile balance between connected groups of people. We are all sometimes influencers, sometimes pirates and sometimes just an audience. Therefore the concept of a "mobile" seemed just the right transcription. Without saying that it also fits the Conference's spirit and is easy to apply on all applications from website to stickers and for the theme of Lift France and Asia.

Step 1: Identify the cluster of words related to the theme

Step 2: build a real life mobile

Step 3: wait until things line up perfectly and shoot!

Congrats Laurent, Cris and the B&B team for another great poster and branding :)

Lift10 to officially launch on Thursday, Dec 3!

We will officially launch Lift10 on Thursday evening, which means we will announce the theme, sessions, format, poster, and much more. Watch this space - and your inboxes - for more information one week ahead of the Lift@home we are organizing in Geneva for the local community on December 9!

Lift@home posters

We wanted to offer Lift@home organizers a possibility to create their own poster for their event. We asked our friends at Bread and Butter to come up with a solution, and here comes the Lift@home do-it-yourself posters based on a system of PDF forms that organizers can customize

Bread and Butter explained their thinking on their blog:

Lift@home is the new way to be involved in the Lift community and allows you to:

• Organize your own Lift somewhere that matters to you
• Choose the program, the format, the date, the number of attendees, etc
• Post your event on liftconference.com, the community will notice and register
• Have a great time, be inspired and meet amazing people!

You can choose between 5 kind of event: Workshop, Dinner, Exhibition, Gathering and Presentation.

In order to preserve Lift branding on one side and to be able to support a large variety of event, we developed an evolutive, simple design, that focus on the chosen theme, on a white (laser printer friendly) or dark grey background.

The Lift Asia 09 poster

Here is the Lift Asia 09 poster, courtesy of our friends at Bread and butter. We decided to keep the year's theme (inspired by Lift09's "Where did the future go?") and add a reference to the elusive future. As we try to catch it we also create it.

The Lift09 poster

The wait is over: here is the much anticipated Lift09 poster, hand made by our friends of Bread and Butter.

Here is the concept explained by Bread and Butter themselves:

A city by night, an impressive landscape of anonymous buildings. Could be anywhere.
A luminous meteor carves the darkness, rustling the anarchy of the city, of our memories.
LIFT 09 emerging with new energy, lights and colors.

A feeling of perspective, of vertigo.
An image inspired by the covers of sci-fi novels of the 70-80's.
This is a typical LIFT poster, 1:1 hand-made, with enough feather strokes to confuse the pixels, impactful.

Carving into the past, LIFT lights up the future that never was. The journey starts now…

You can see the archive of Lift posters here, and download highres versions for printing if you wish.

3 years of Lift posters

Today is a big day because Bread and Butter, who has been designing the Lift brand and experience since 2006, will show us the brand new 2009 poster! Every year we are looking forward to this moment with great excitement as the poster is really the starting point for the whole design of both the European and the Asian conference. Before we uncover the new brand here is a recap of the previous editions.
