Reinventing the personal computer

Mouse and keyboards were invented 30 years ago… To help us work better with computers, write texts, do our budgets or conceive new products. Since then not much has changed … expect us. Now we use computers to play music, watch videos, get some news, and communicate with our friends. And we don’t want to sit at our desk to do all this…

We should not throw away our mouse and keyboard. They are very well adapted to situations where we work or play alone, sited and fully concentrated on our task. Nevertheless we need to invent another kind of computer interface adapted to more causal situations, a computer without mouse and keyboard that one can use while continuing doing other thinks.

I have been thinking on this issue for quite a while now, working with designer to build prototypes, testing them in many different situations with many different users. This is a whole new design space to explore... I’d like to share with you what we come up with so far…
