The birth of La Semeuse
Born into a family of grocers from Alsace, Marc Bloch one day decided to widen his commercial horizons and become a wholesaler. In 1900 he founded La Semeuse in La Chaux-de-Fonds, specialising in importing and the distribution of groundnut oil.
Thanks to impeccable service and a quality product, La Semeuse fast established its reputation and became known as a symbol of excellence.
Until 1914 La Semeuse expanded thanks to the efforts of its founder. In 1915 as a French citizen he was called up for military service and died one year later on the Balkan front line. His young widow took charge of the business and not only provided impetus for growth but also diversified into the roasting of coffee.
