Workshop organizer profile: Manuel Schmalstieg and Ilan Katin

Lift10 is in 7 days, and we are posting profiles of the workshop organizers. Don't forget to have a look at the program!

Manuel Schmalstieg and Ilan Katin will be hosting a workshop at Lift10 entitled VJing – from software to public space.

Manuel operates on the borderline between video, performance and software art, and works at N3krozoft Media Group. Ilan is an artist working in drawings, live video performance and animation. They are both currently working on preparing Mapping Festival - a festival dedicated to VJing taking place in Geneva from the 6 - 16 May - so extend your stay in Geneva to enjoy it :)

Their workshop at Lift will about VJing. They take this practice in the very broad sense, not tied to any particular genre or even a specific technology. The basic action is when a person manipulates materials that are broadcasted or projected, before an audience.

Due to a combination of recent technological advances that have increased access to the basic materials necessary for VJing, the medium has experienced significant expansion in recent years.

Ilan and Manuel will provide a brief history of the medium, show some samples of important works being created today, how these works are disseminated, and provide some speculation on the future of the medium and its implications.
