A Web mashup is not only the association of Google Maps with various data.
Google is omnipresent in the Web 2.0 mashup landscape, specially thanks to a very popular application: Maps. Its wide adoption and fast spread over personal and commercial websites deserves to be studied. Indeed, current mashups are dramatically missing innovation, built on poor and static data-based features. So, as Maps played an essential role at the beginning, we now need a new "key enabler" for a next generation of mashups.
In the Hybrid COM department of Bell Labs we believe that the Communication is that missing element. Few months ago We introduced the communication hyperlinks via an experimentation on www.dundal.com. It was a first step of Communication integration into a Web 2.0 environment. Now we propose APIs, tools and tutorials on www.communication-mashups.com to allow Web Service Providers to easily add communication features to their business logic.
Thus, Bell Labs introduces the "COM 2.0" as the next key mashup enabler for a new breed of Web applications.
