What can the future do for you?
Lift works to identify and anticipate current and emerging usagesof digital technologies through research, events, publications and services.
Product development has a bit of a hit-and-miss nature. Some startups or new products soar, while others falter and disappear from the landscape. To explore what this means in a practical way, we'll use this workshop to split the attendance in 2 teams: a product development team and a user base. We'll work in two phases:
1) the product team and myself will design a first version of an imaginary product. We'll come up with something on the fly, and mock up the UI on a flipchart, simple 'n easy.
2) we'll run it past the user base, and gather feedback. We'll see what users want, how far we are from something useful, and integrate the feedback into a new version of our product. Maybe we'll need to scratch everything, who knows. We'll then repeat this phase multiple times, showing version after version to the users.
Through this exercise, we'll see what discrepancies exist between the two groups' visions and needs, what practical limitations there are, and how both teams eventually either get to a great product together or not.
The outcome of this workshop is open: it's the experience of iterating and arguing over features that's worth the ride :)
