What can the future do for you?
Lift works to identify and anticipate current and emerging usagesof digital technologies through research, events, publications and services.
We are noticing a digitization of the contemporary cities with technologies embedded into its streets and buildings and carried by people and vehicles. This evolution has appended an informational membrane over the urban fabrics that afford citizens new flexibility in conducting their daily activities. Simultaneously, this membrane reports on previously invisible dynamics of a city; providing new means to the multiple actors of the urban life to reshape the spaces, the policies, the flows, the services and the many different aspects that constitute a city.
In this workshop, we plan to address this increasing presence of the informational membrane hovering over Barcelona, exploring the implications (trade-offs, opportunities and concerns) and understanding how it affects the way citizens feel and live their city. Beyond abstract discussions and far-fetched visions, participants will sketch near-future scenarios with datasets and infrastructures existing in Barcelona. To aliment and critique the design process, participants will play the role of distinct urban actors (e.g. local politicians, activists, entrepreneurs, researchers, municipal employees, urban planners, lobbyists, artists...).
This workshop is part of the Urban Labs days held on October 22-24 at Citilab in Cornellà in the outskirts of Barcelona.
