Kosova: A Newborn Country

February 17, 2008 - 14:07 — Kushtrim Xhakli

17 February, 2008

Today is an important day: Kosova is becoming an independent state, a newborn country in the World with lots of potential, stability, culture and European values. With an estimated 50% of young population and good background of IT and English, Kosovo with its European and US partners today becomes a place where good prosperity and business opportunities take place to attract foreign investment and create the newest market in Europe.

Wow that sounds cool. So now

Wow that sounds cool. So now you most definately are the best webdesigner company of your country. Are you sending your own team of webmasters to the olympic games?

But why are some other countries talking about not letting Kosovo become an independant country?

Were any precious natural ressources discovered in Kosovo other then php programmers brains?

Maybe because Serbia and

Maybe because Serbia and Russia also have lots of php programmers brains and an Independent Kosovo means even more competition? ;-)) Or maybe, despite having strong IT skills, many people in these countries still live in 19th/20th-century-like conception of nation-states and patriotism, meaning that you fight tooth and nail to preserve your borders and spheres of political influence, even against evidence that this is unsustainable and insensible?

Anyway, I congratulate Kosovo and Kosovars for this new step towards joining the big global party as a free and democratic country. I also hope that this new geo-political configuration will help settle once and for all the multi-centenial ethnic and religious issues that have led to war in this region. After all, these new countries will have to collaborate once they are all part of the EU! Good luck to the new Republic of Kosovo!

Congratulations! My deepest

Congratulations!

My deepest desire is that this be a breakthrough in European history. Having experienced some of your IT countrymen at the government level firsthand has enriched me with a the perspective of what it is like to be able to let your most daring dreams and human rights emerge in a world of respect.
