How can we make "Video Wikis" happen?

Today, Video Editing is almost as common on computers as word processing was in the 90's. It is a standard feature of the Macintosh OS, alas not Windows. Millions of people do edit their own contents, standalone, for fun, semi-professionally or as a profession on hardware and software that is all but special and expensive.

Video Editing has hardly benefitted from the innovations brought forth by the Net. The Editor's work is still a pretty lonesome job, in a darkly lit room. S/he is expected to do all the job on her/his own. Despite the emergence of broadband networking, which can make it feasible to share projects (a full feature HD Movie is still less than 50 Gigabytes) and potentially enable a network-centric work flow, our software is still for the use of one person alone. Not even one person at a time. The amount of video production - with the exponential growth in "Channels" - will only put more strain on editing. The amount of video acquired - by amateurs, semi- and full professionals - will grow to the point of putting a strain on the editing process, which is today the biggest bottleneck in the process.

Enter Video Wikis. If one software is possible to envision, the "porting" of Wiki to the Video domain could be a very welcome one. According to Vint Cerf, inventor of TCP/IP, who is considered a "father of internet", one of the most important evolutions of the net is indeed the Wiki: it has shrunk the minimum amount of relevant contributions to the least common denominator - one character, one byte. No one is forced to publish a book, and article, a paragraph or even a word to contribute to the world's knowledge. A change of one character is enough, with a Wiki. I wonder what is the amount of thought and the amount of adapting APIs needed to enable Video Wikis to run on existing Video Editors. I would love to discuss this topic with people who have a technical and operational knowledge of Wikis and of Video Editing.

Note - I am indicating "hopefuls" among Discussion starters. I have not yet spoken to them. I hope they will not be angry at me for making them "work".
