What can the future do for you?
Lift works to identify and anticipate current and emerging usagesof digital technologies through research, events, publications and services.
CVs (resumes) used to be THE way for individuals and organizations to get to know each other. But what happens when:
-- Employers google the name of every prospective employee?
-- Freelance, part-time, multi-employment, nonlinear careers, etc. become commonplace?
-- the digital natives enter the business world?
-- social networks make the introductions?
-- etc.
What could CVs be used for in 2020?
What information will employers be looking for? Will employers have to provide their own CV to attract new recruits? Will they facilitate self-employment and entrepreneurship? Will they be used mainly in the recruitment phase or at anytime in one's career, e.g. to get a contract? Will they be accessible by prospective clients and customers to establish a business relationship?
What will the CV look like in 2020?
Will it still exist? If not, what will fulfill its current role?
Will it still be a document ? or an aggregate? a portfolio? a mashup ? a video ? a fully-automated matching process ? a mix of all this?
What information will it carry, and how? Will it still contain qualifications from the distant past and professional experience ? or an aggregation of skills, accomplishments, expressions and network activities ? How much of its content will be produced by the individual, or even controlled by him or her?
Employers, employees, freelancers and public agencies all have a stake in imagining the future of the CV.
We propose a three part workshop:
1. A short discussion of the main issues surrounding the CV.
2. The collective production of a visual map of the content that could make up the 2020 CV: What, Where, How, Produced-owned-viewed by Whom?
3. Potential design scenarios for the 2020 CV
The goal of this session is to produce elements for subsequent action.
