Communication-mashups.com

With the 2.0’s offer growing, Mashups have become a key factor of Web success, mixing existing services and contents to build innovative applications. However, current communication architectures are not suited for mashup development.

Thanks to the development of communication APIs, third parties can now easily build innovative mashups by mixing communication features with their business logic. With such communication mashups, it becomes possible to design synchronous mashups reacting in-live to a communication stream. Now, a communication mashup could “listen” to a communication between two users and use the content of the conversation as an input. Therefore, communication APIs enable the creation of new applications combining the extensive amount of data and services available on the web and the reactivity and interactivity of current communication vectors. For instance, a communication mashup could:

· listen for IM messages sent by a user,

· translate them in another language,

· use a text-to-speech API and

· transmit the resulting audio stream to the other user.

Synchronous communication APIs are expected to largely extend the scope of mashup creation enabling new scenarios.

During this workshop, I will introduce communication mashup concept and Hybrid Communication APIs. We will then discuss the new possibilities and scenario enabled by this concept illustrated by case studies.
