What can the future do for you?
Lift works to identify and anticipate current and emerging usagesof digital technologies through research, events, publications and services.
Lift09 - Aggregated blog stream with commentary.
Last week Laurent Haug announced a partnership with Mobify.Me to bring you a mobile version of the Lift website. http://m.liftconference.com
I would like to highlight a couple spontaneously generated initiatives made by Lift Participants to help further mobilize our Lift Experience.
1.) Lift: Widset Widget
It may seem redundant to use Mobify.Me and a widget, although the one clear advantage of using the Lift Widset widget is that the content is cached on your device. In other words you do not no need to be pervasive connected to the internet.

2.) Lift: Zcape:: Maarten Lens-Fitzgerald setup a ‘context relevant’ mini-blog on Zcapes to help us keep track of what is happening in the “physical” and “Live” web permutations.

3.) Kaywa: DokoDare:: Roger Fischer of Kaywa, an ambitious Swiss start-up, has setup a Dokodare location-enabled convergence mobile-blog for Lift09. The beauty of Dokodare is the ability to find places of interest (cafés / restaurants) near the conference to extend the Lift Experience.
The Lift Conference has already begun for me. Throughout the day I reflect about what I will experience from what I believe will be an incredible conference and memorable event. I am really curious about those who will also be attending. I ask myself, who will I meet and what amazing conversations will we have.
I frequent this Lift Portal often to see if anyone has posted some thoughts or has shared any words about how they are preparing for Lift. When reading this blog I ask myself, where is everyone? How are the participants preparing themselves for Lift?
Now it is your turn to share a thought or two. What do you expect from this Lift Experience? How are you preparing for this incredible experience?

Dan Hill is a pioneering figure in the development of innovative information and communications technology products and services since the early ’90s. One of the most impressive roles Dan has had in his fruitful career was that of chief architect for the redesign of the BBC’s web presence, implementing strategies to meet the requirements for the “on-demand” media age, including the development of the BBC iPlayer.
Another role Dan Hill has played was that of Director of Web & Broadcast for the ground-breaking global media Monocle, He also organised the architecture and urbanism conference Postopolis in New York, and runs City of Sound, generally acclaimed as one of the leading architecture and urbanism websites.
Mr. Hill currently works for the multinational design consultancy Arup in Sydney, Australia, where he acts as a senior consultant focusing on urban planning and design, leading Arup into the emerging field of urban informatics and urban information design.
The World Economic Forum has wrapped up it’s annual meeting in Davos today. The results of this annual meeting are still left to be deciphered. Bearing this in mind, in less then 25 days many of us will converge on Geneva for the European lift09 experience to engage in our own gathering to explore and share ideas on how our societies are affected by current and emerging “new” technologies.
As a community of “doers” and “thinkers” this years European Lift Experience will be focusing on answering the following question: “Where did the future go?” This is such a loaded question and I am very curious what outcomes we will all take away from this year’s experience. I do know for certain that Lift09 will attract the presence of incredibly bright “doers and thinkers;” and will be potentially more interesting and playful than Davos.
From a personal perspective I feel the excitement mounting as I prepare to attend lift09. As I make travel and lodging arrangements I feel the lift experience already coming alive despite the fact I have never attended this event before. I anticipate connecting with amazing individuals, (like you), engaging in purposeful dialogue in an open, creative and playful atmosphere.
In all honesty, I am humbled at having this opportunity to attend the European Lift Experience this year and I will do my utmost to be an active participant in finding ways to turn the global changes we all observe and face into opportunities for positive social development. I am looking forward to meeting you in Genève.
Recently I interviewed Nicolas Nova, editorial manager of LIFT, at the Mobile City Conference in Rotterdam, NL. The topics covered in this interview are: The future of education and learning, blended-learning, remote-accessed field trips, communication, collaboration, the changing roles of teachers & professors, surveillance, privacy and The Lift Conference. I was very impressed with Nicolas's reflections on the topics mentioned above and I make this interview available to the lift community in order to inspire thought and discussion on the topics Nicolas addresses.
