Social Media in ELT

February 6, 2008 - 11:46 — Barbara Dieu

I would love to be physically present at the Lift08 Conference so as to meet the people who are actively involved in social media and its implementation in the various fields. However, differently from my European colleagues, I am too distant geographically and cannot attend it so I am following it online.

I would like to point out that we are also promoting these tools and environments in education for networking, professional and linguistic development through some of the EVO(Electronic Village Online) sessions.

Social Media in ELT, for instance, which is the one I am presently co-moderating, is an advanced session exploring the use of weblogs and related participatory technologies in language learning. Run as a workshop on a Drupal platform, it offers practical guidance on using a set of freely available software applications and services. It also aims to develop a critically reflected understanding of these technologies, focusing on their potential and implications in language teaching.

Looking forward to converge, share experience and network with you and who knows, in a near future, participate f2f in your conference.

Warm regards from Brazil,

Barbara (Bee) Dieu
